Livelihoods

What for?

Livelihoods aims to have an impact beyond the projects directly financed by the fund. We want to promote specific values and philosophy, to share our experience and to learn from others. That’s why Livelihoods Network was created together with the fund, on the 5th of July 2011. It is a non-profit association that unites people involved in Livelihoods projects, but also other field organizations and experts who share principles expressed in the Livelihoods Charter and are actively involved in promoting those principles. Livelihoods Network is a unique opportunity for people from all over the world to work together in order to progress faster and more efficiently.

All the members of Livelihoods Network recognize the following:

• The need to implement large-scale projects capable of having a major impact on communities;
• The complex nature of these projects, which require a high level of knowledge and multiple skills in a wide variety of areas;
• The work done locally by a multitude of parties, conducting local trials of ground-breaking solutions, devising methods and resources, and helping to develop and spread knowledge;  The need to accelerate the transfer of best practices, capitalize on proven solutions, and boost knowledge.

Livelihoods Network's mission is to meet these requirements by doing the following for its members and the Livelihoods Fund and Livelihoods Venture:building a pool of skills and know-how and capitalizing on best practices;

• offering support to Livelihoods Fund projects, in order to improve their effectiveness and long-term sustainability;
• promoting innovation in key areas of interest to Livelihoods;
• developing a network for debate, dialogue and knowledge-sharing.
